I have always held the philosophy that every company should be in the business of giving back and over the course of the almost 2 years we have been running, I haven't made any steps towards doing so with Volta Media.
That changes today.
Over the last few months I've been thinking more and more about the social impact I want this company to have.
The first step I want to take is to improve the environmental impact we have as a business.
Since the industrial revolution we have collectively been pushing the planet towards destruction, pumping chemicals into the air, mass farming livestock, and dumping waste into our oceans.
Over the last few years we have seen a really positive shift in views on single use plastics and the damage they are causing - I even created a documentary on this with ITV in my final year of University.
While plastic pollution is a major problem, there is a lot more we can be doing to fix the problems we have created.
Our line of work involves a lot of travel, which is why we have joined a carbon offset programme.
As of this week, we will be making monthly donations to Offset Earth to help fund incredible climate projects and to offset our carbon emissions.
Something we have already been doing for the past year is powering our office using 100% sustainable energy, giving us the ability to feel guilt free using when using our power hungry equipment.
We all live in the digital age, and now more than ever we need to control our paper usage.
From today, we will be going paper free, only using recycled paper when it is absolutely necessary.
As of April 2020 we will be a proud member of Pledge 1%.
Every year we will work with a our chosen charity or not-for-profit to support their cause.
We will donate 1% of our revenue every year, and we'll also donate 1% of our time towards producing a promotional video for that cause, helping them to further spread their message.
This is just the start of what we want to achieve with our social impact programme, and while we are only a small business, we still want to make a positive impact on society.
If you are a charity/not for profit, we'd love to have a chat with you about how we can help your cause by donating our video services. If this is something that would be of interest to you, please get in touch.
